We lost our power last night around 11:30pm, which in itself wasn't such a big deal since I was already asleep on the couch anyway! So Aidan got out the candles and flashlights and set them around the house so they were available when we needed them and I went to bed. Unfortunately, Owen and Maeghan are both afraid of the dark, so when they woke up this morning they both freaked out because it was pitch black, not something they are used to. I, on the other hand, was freaking out because I couldn't figure out how I was going to make coffee with no power. I tried to bribe Aidan (because he was going to work), that maybe he could swing by Starbucks and bring me back a cup - or two. Logical as he is, however, he snorted with laughter and informed me that Starbucks probably wouldn't have power either, so I was outa luck. I briefly contemplated cold coffee when suddenly the lights came back on! Yay! I frantically ran downstairs, put the coffee on, made some eggs, turned the dryer on, and jacked up the heat, charged my cell phone - all in case the power shut off again. I am surprised I didn't cause a power surge or something, everything in my house that requires electricity was running - I'm sure from the outside my house looked like a lightbulb.So far, so good. Power is still on and we are toasty warm. Maeghan, however, isn't as well off as the rest of us since she has the flu. High fever, plenty of coughing, poor thing. But she does behave quite like a man when she's sick. Moaning and groaning "Oh, I can't walk...someone carry me to the bathroom, I have to pee" or "I can't reach my crackers that are on the table within arms reach...mommy, could you put them in my mouth?" Now don't get me wrong, I do love that little girl with all my heart, but could somebody say "Drama Queen?"
Once I got Maeghan settled in, I decided to put my child laborer to work and sent Owen outside to shovel the sidewalk (picture above). He did a fabulous job too....before getting distracted with building a snow rabbit, leaving me to come out and finish up. Typical male.
Happy Belated Birthday Holly! I phoned you this morning but you were out for birthday lunch. I hope you had really good food and a couple of hot toddy's to warm you up.
